Self-Defense, Empathy & Sympathy

“You Must Understand, There Are People, That You Don’t Know, That Hate You”

In the real world, on the streets, and not in the cozy all-inclusive dojos or tacticool gun ranges, do such things as empathy and sympathy have a place in self-defense training, for those who may need to actually use their close combat skills, to protect their own life and the lives of others? I will say absolutely not!

Many people in the martial arts and sports shooting world who have branched into teaching self-defense and tactical courses don’t seem to understand, due to not having the experience to comprehend, that real world self-defense is about uncompromising violence.

Self-defense is about violence, and in many cases extreme violence. From a defensive perspective your aggression needs to be controlled. It needs to be turned on, turned off, and if necessary turned on again, as required. No empathy or sympathy for a downed criminal or terrorist who could just be feigning defeat to set you up for a surprise attack. You need to apply controlled aggression until the hostile situation is 100% safe and under control.

A fact that many people do not seem to understand, or are in denial of, is that we are all hated by people who we do not even know. You must understand that you are hated because of your race, religion, political affiliations or social status etc. etc. And those people that hate you would happily, given the slightest opportunity, rob, harm, abuse, rape, enslave and murder you, your family, and loved ones for nothing more than cheap thrills and passive entertainment.

There are many people on this planet, as you are reading this article, who are training to destroy you. Be their motivations criminal orientated or terrorist, many of these people are training harder than active-duty military and law enforcement, and operationally are not bound by any behavioral boundaries. Do you think such people would show you and your loved ones any sympathy or empathy if they decided you were their targets? If you think they would, then I will question your mental health!

I have a article online titled “Shoot to Kill” which is about Instinctive shooting. Many times, when I have posted this article on social media, I have had people comment how I should not be using the word “kill”, as it is a too aggressive approach that could get people into legal issues etc. etc…

I understand these people’s wokness, but I don’t share their perspectives as I do not live in a happy and fluffy bubble. When people come to me for defensive firearms or self-defense training, my goal for them, in say a firearms class, after they understand the laws on use of force, and can use a firearm safely, is for them to be able to shoot and kill a criminal or terrorist who is trying to seriously harm them, their family or other innocent people as quickly and effectively as possible. The quicker they kill the criminal or terrorist, then the safer it is for all involved. By dumbing down and making the realities of self-defense politically correct, you are just putting innocent peoples lives at risk. The over complication of self-defense techniques combined with politically correct fluff, on the streets leads to hesitation, that leads to law abiding and innocent people being harmed and possibly killed by scumbags.

Most of those people who have attended my classes over the years were not there for fun, they were there because they wanted to be able to protect themselves, businesses and families. There is a big difference between real world self-defense and tactical cosplaying. Many of these people had had issues in the past, or were going through issues, and came to me for solutions, not to play with guns and knives just for selfies and to boost their failed male egos.

Buy understanding that hostile incidents are not like computer games or social media tactical cosplay videos, and have consequences, where some people survive, people get hurt, people die and people go to jail, emphasizes to responsible and intelligent people, that confrontations have dire consequences and are best avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Sadly, we are living in a world that has strayed from the basic human instincts of what is right and wrong, what is good and what is bad. This perversion of basic human instincts is due to corrupt legal systems that give criminals and predators preference over law abiding responsible people and those who are vulnerable within our communities.

Shouldn’t the judges and authorities in the United States that let the repeat offender Decarlos Brown Jr., who murdered the 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, Iryna Zarutska, by stabbing her three times from behind and then to have reportedly said “I got that white girl.” be held accountable? Didn’t these judges and authorities put the wellbeing and freedom of a repeat offender above the safety of the general public? Are these judges and authorities not a liability and a risk to society?

In the United Kingdom shouldn’t the police, politicians and judges who have let grooming gangs operate and let rapists and pedophiles walk free from criminal cases also be held accountable for these sex offender’s crimes? What empathy and sympathy have been given to the victims when their rapists have been let free to continue their grooming and sexual offences?

Throughout history competent leaders have had to protect their people, and have had to ensure their people’s safety, or else they would be overthrown and replaced. This is common sense for the wellbeing of a society. Why have leadership that allows criminals to pray upon the law-abiding people within society? As the saying goes “To show mercy to the wolf, is cruelty to the sheep”. As I said earlier, we are living in a world where for the most part, leadership has strayed from the most basic human instincts of protecting innocent and vulnerable people within society. Personal gain has replaced empathy, sympathy and responsibility due to law-abiding, weak and vulnerable people within society.

Empathy and sympathy are for those that deserve them. In self-defense situations, showing empathy and sympathy to the wolves will only ensure the suffering and slaughter of the sheep!
